A West Virginia native, I grew up in Fayette County and graduated from Montgomery High and WV Tech. Upon marrying Randy Cooper, also a West Virginian and Tech grad, we eventually settled in south Florida, raising our family and having long careers as educators and administrators in Palm Beach County schools.West Virginia remained dear to us, and many summers and holidays were spent “back home” with
family and friends, exploring historical and scenic places, camping in its spectacular state parks, hiking and discovering falls and limestone caves, and roaming the mystical mountains. After retiring, I began to long and look for my deep “WV roots.” My search came to a halt upon discovering Pipestem Place. Overgrown and surrounded by woods and hay fields, it sat lonely and neglected, a haven for deer and birds. Longing and search satisfied! Pipestem Place soon came alive, and the two shining cabins christened The Robin and The Whitetail. Reminiscent of Ireland, the fields and woods evoked a “deja vu” of my Irish ancestry. The meandering gravel lane became officially Anam Cara Way (anam cara) Irish for “soul friend, mentor”
Anam Cara Way (anam cara> Irish for “soul friend, mentor”).

A “should-have-been” WV native, my parents were both born and raised in the Hills of WV and with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins mostly residing there for all of their lives, I spent most of my summers and any vacation time visiting and growing to love my “once removed” roots.
Though I grew up in South Florida, I loved my summers there away from the Florida heat. I hiked in the woods, swam in cold streams, explored waterfalls and fell in love. Being adventurous, I rappelled in the New River Gorge, skied for the first time at Snowshoe and learned a love of rafting that continues today as I pursue trips on many Western Rivers in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona.
Life took me out west to Santa Fe, New Mexico where I pursued an art career and eventually a Real Estate career. I feel blessed to have helped my mother find her dream cabins, and to now again get to spend family time in this wonderful place. Many friends and family are still nearby and it is like coming “home” to stay at the cabins on Anam Cara Way.
