Things to Do and See

The village of Pipestem and Pipestem State Park, one of WV’s most outstanding parks, sits high on a plateau with deep canyons, converging rivers and streams, high rolling hills — a unique, diverse vacation land, a mecca for exploration, photography and recreation!

The 4,000-acre Pipestem State Park features a lodge and conference center, four restaurants, gift shops, an 18-hole par 72 championship golf course, a 3-par course, heated indoor and Olympic-size outdoor swimming pools, over 20 hiking trails, horseback riding, kayaking/boating/fishing, archery, camping, aerial tram, zip-line, and many other recreational, educational, and entertainment events and activities throughout the year.

Outdoor Adventures

Pipestem State Park has both an 18 hole and a 9 hole par 3 course, heated indoor and Olympic-size outdoor swimming pools, over 20 hiking trails, horseback riding, kayaking/boating/fishing, archery, camping, aerial tram, zip-line (upcoming 2019), and many other recreational, educational and entertainment events and activities throughout the year.
Winterplace
Winterplace skiing is a 45-minute drive and offers great skiing for all levels on beautiful rolling hills for your winter adventure.
Bluestone
Lake Recreational Area is approximately 10 minutes down Hwy 20, and has swimming and boat rentals available in warmer seasons.
White Water Rafting There are several commercial wild water rafting companies, offering various levels of rafting. Most of our West Virginia whitewater rafting trips are a full-day adventure of approximately 6-8 hours – and include a specially-prepared riverside lunch and river equipment. No experience is necessary for any New River whitewater rafting trip. professional guides are in each raft.

Hiking
Hiking is great in the area, many trails to scenic waterfalls are nearby including Brush Creek Falls, Sandstone Falls and Pipestem State Park.

Historic Towns

Princeton
historic railroad city features Railroad Museum, “Those Who Served” War Memorial Museum which contains artifacts from Revolutionary War to present day.

Bramwell
picturesque town; historic mansions and homes of wealthy Coal Barons of early 20th Century, National Coal Heritage Trail Museum and Interpretive Center,exhibiting WV’s coal history, the nearby Hatfield & McCoy Heritage Trail.

Hinton
the hub of the historic C&O Railroad, “must see” Railroad Museum, vintage Ritz Theatre, three converging rivers form the National Scenic New River, major Flyway for migrating birds, spectacular Sandstone Falls.

Lewisburg and White Sulpher Springs
a 40-minute scenic drive takes you to Lewisburg with its famed covered bridge and upscale shops and restaurants. White Sulpher Springs, home to the famous Greenbriar Hotel is worth the drive to visit the springs. Drive, wander, and see where numerous presidents “took the waters” and vacationed.

  • Pipestem Drive-in Theatre is one of the few drive-in theatres left in the U.S.A.
  • Ritz theatre (Hinton), is a historic theatre from the 1930s, showing current movies weekly Concord University and famous Carilion Bell
